13. Dry, Sunny Rocks

Dry cliffs and road cuts have spotty coverage in full sun, often 100% in part shade. Polytrichum piliferum is associated with rocks but is usually in thin soil over rock. There are many interesting, rare species in this habitat. This habitat can be very slow to be colonized, as observed on road cuts.
