6. Trunks and branches of Bigleaf Maple

The bigleaf maple bryophyte assemblage is shared with alders and other riparian hardwoods. In the Olympic Peninsula there may be more biomass of bryophytes in the canopy than leaves on the tree. Adventitious roots from the maple branches penetrate bryophyte mat.
